Halloween, or Hallowe’en, is a holiday celebrated on the night of October 31st. Halloween activities include trick-or-treating, ghost tours, bonfires, costume parties, visiting “haunted houses”, carving Jack-o’-lanterns/pumpkins, reading scary stories and watching horror movies.

Halloween is very popular around the world, especially in the UK, USA and Ireland.  Traditions for Halloween include trick or treating, apple bobbing, pumpkin carving and dressing up in Halloween costumes.

In Wales, Halloween is known as Nos Galan Gaeaf (which translates as ‘the start of the new winter’). Spirits of the dead are said to walk around and the ghost of a “white lady” is sometimes said to appear. Bonfires are also lit on hillsides throughout Wales to mark the night.

Happy Halloween!
